Lions Agree to Terms with Rookie Aaron Brown

Friday, July 17, 2009

The Detroit News reports today that the Lions have signed sixth round pick, Aaron Brown--a running back from Texas Christian.

Brown joins Matthew Stafford and Dan Gronkowski as the only signed rookies on the Lions' roster.

Ty posted a great article on Aaron Brown earlier in the offseason. Check it out here.

Whether or not Aaron Brown makes the roster is another story. The running back situation is clear at the top with Kevin Smith coming off a great season and Maurice Morris signed as his veteran back up.

Aaron Brown is in competition for a reserve spot along with fellow rookie, Antone Smith (Florida State), second year player, Allen Ervin and veteran Aveion Cason.

Factor in also Jerome Felton as a possible candidate for short yardage rushes and it is certainly a crowded backfield in Detroit.

In the end (much like with the WR position) the back who shows the most capability with special teams will probably make the roster. And the Lions may be more willing to go with a veteran on the active roster, relegating Brown, A. Smith, or Ervin to the practice squad.
